Author Interview with Jonathan Ficke
I’m excited to welcome Jonathan Ficke here today to talk a bit about himself. He contributed to the Merciless Mermaids anthology with his story Tovarishch which I had to look up. It means “comrade” especially in reference to Russian communism. A fact that’s interesting if you have a chance to read Jonathan’s story.
Welcome, Jonathan! Tell us a bit about yourself.
I live outside of Milwaukee with my wife and children and write speculative (mostly fantasy) fiction. I also build custom woodworked furniture.
Is there any other written work you have out there or that you’re working on?
I’ve been published in “Cossmass Infinites” and “Writers of the Future, Vol. 34” as well as translated into several languages. Currently I’m querying a trenchpunk spy thriller novel.
What inspired your piece in Merciless Maidens?
The distressingly timely need to remind people that Nazis are awful and if given the chance, it’s probably a good idea to drown them in the woods.
My story is so short that a short spoiler free snippet is apt to be as long as the story. In any case, remember, Nazis are always bad. Resisting them is always good. Even if you’re the damned spirit of a village woman cursed to haunt a forest pond.
