Author Interview M. Lopes da Silva

I’m pleased to welcome M. Lopes da Silva to my blog today. They wrote the gorgeous poem “My Ex comes in with the Tide” in the Merciless Mermaids anthology which releases on July 25th.

M. Lopes da Silva (she/they/he) is a white Latinx and non-binary trans masc author and artist from Los Angeles. He writes pulp and poetry.

Tell me something unique about yourself.

I have an obsession with the syrup-to-carbonated-soda-water ratio of fountain Cokes.

What are your previous writing accomplishments and/or what are you working on now?

I wrote a novella where a sex worker is not only the protagonist of her own narrative, but she’s allowed to be messy and queer and also a badass – that book is Hooker – published by Unnerving Magazine in 2020. I’m also currently writing a narrative horror poem: it’s a western about a werewolf and the vampire that they drag behind them in a coffin from town to town.

What inspired your piece in Merciless Maidens?

Emotions have a cyclical nature – like tides – nostalgia and regret move similarly through our bodies, and consequently our thoughts.
