A SOUL IN DARKNESS
(A Les Misérable origin story)
John is a naïve biracial teen who dreams of escaping poverty and catching the eye of his true love, a girl from high society. But his work as a gardener will never win her heart or elevate his social standing. When he’s offered a second job, he takes it only to discover he’s working for rum runners. But once he’s in can he get back out? And does he want to?
Victor is a young white newlywed and rookie police officer who longs to bring justice to the world just like St. Michael. But when he’s stationed in a small town with a chief who’s reluctant to deal with the true criminals, he realizes he’ll have to take matters into his own hands. Will he be able to take down the rum runners? And at what cost?
When their paths cross, sparks fly that ignite a lifetime of animosity and mistrust.

THE SILENCE OF GIVING (YA-Novel in verse)
Two girls.
One who refuses to use her voice.
And one who doesn’t know the strength of hers.
Allison, a black girl adopted into a white family at birth, has always felt different. In the summer before her final year in high school she begs to attend Musical Theatre camp to explore costume design—a shock to the parents who viewed her as a promising future engineer.
Whitney is thankful to focus on Musical Theatre camp instead of her busy family and the black community that seems to be strangling the life out of her. And now that her boyfriend has given her a promise ring, she needs the space. Especially since her dreams of becoming an opera singer aren’t part of everyone’s script.
The girls form an unlikely friendship. Whitney’s warm, community roots stir hope in Allison that she might one day be grafted into these people giving her an opportunity to learn more about her background. Allison’s accepting, unassuming nature gives Whitney the space to truly be herself. When both sets of parents find out about their budding friendship, they voice their displeasure to their daughters. Although Allison and Whitney never speak about it, the tension drives a wedge between them, fracturing the fragile relationship. But when Whitney’s costume is jeopardized, and the performance is on the line can the two girls come together to rescue it and their friendship?
I am always surprised to discover that when the world seems darkest, there exists the greatest opportunity for light.
