Truth #7: (Almost) Everyone has a Theme Song

Hymn Book

It was always in my head.
When I lay on my bed late at night.
When I hung out on the playground…alone.
When I did my math homework.

“One Tin Soldier” was my theme song.
…they taught it to us in school…
… … …
yes, it’s a really old song….

(pfft, why people always laughing at me…)

It kept me grounded.

It kept me sane.

It kept me company when I was lonely.

And I thought it made me different,
than the rest of my classmates.

Over the years the song changed (thankfully!),
but the effect on me stayed the same.

I thought I was weird.
Now I know differently.

You see,
I believe that many people have a theme song of their own.

Maybe it’s the triumph of Rocky.
Or the dark heroics of Batman.
Or the triune Holiness of God

Perhaps you don’t wake up with a song in your head, like me,
(no. really.
I almost always wake up with a random song in my head and it follows me all day)
but a song may continually come up as, not only your favorite, but your theme.

Come on…spill the beans…what’s your theme song? You know you wanna…

I love your posts. They’re almost like poems. Very cool.

My theme song shifts with what I’m going through. I’ll latch onto a song that ministers to my spirit where I’m at and will hang onto it until that truth sets in my soul and a new song begins to minister to me.

There’s one song that I have always loved (non-Christian) that puts me in a good mood no matter what’s going on. It’s 10,000 Maniacs Like the Weather. And you can still buy it on LP at Amazon (LOL).

  2. Precarious Yates says:

Lisa, I ❀ 10,000 Maniacs. Natalie Merchant has a fantastic voice!

Music has defined my life, even though I'm the least musical of my family. My theme song has changed a number of times over the years, but they have mostly been songs by U2.

Lately, there have been two songs, by two different groups, that have been my theme songs. The first is King Without a Crown by Matisyahu. Here's a sample of the lyrics to show why:

"Out of darkness comes light, a twilight unto the heights
Crown heights burnin' up all through the twilight
Said, "I thank you" to my God, now I finally got it right
And I'll fight with all of my heart and all my soul and all my might
What's this feeling? My love will rip a hole through the ceiling
I give myself to you from the essence of my being"

And then I heard this song by Citizens: "I'm Living in the Land of Death", and my mind was blown away!

"The kingdoms of man have all decayed
the ruins of progress turn to waste
the gods of greed lay in their graves
    darkness is everywhere
but there's a path in the dark that has emerged
i can see a great light beyond this curse
a brilliant blaze that is your word
a beacon of hope that burns

and I focus my captivated gaze
on the radiant light from Jesus' face
the water of life is all i crave
    only your word remains"

And that's only a sample of some of the best lyrics I've run across in a long, long time.

I love U2 for their lyrics! Currently I’m loving Caedmon’s Call as well. They have great poetry!

I’ll have to check out those two groups. The words gave me the shivers so that is a good sign! I’m always on the prowl for more music to add to my head. πŸ™‚

      Thanks for sharing Precarious! πŸ™‚

I agree with lisa in that my song changes, but for the last few years it is definitely ” this is the stuff” by Francesca Battistelli. A lighter song that always cheers me up when things start dragging me down. πŸ™‚

  4. Lisa Godfrees says:

Michelle- I got to see Fancesca Battistelli in concert and grew to love her song more because she is just so sweet. It’s a great pick-me-up song.

Precarious- LOL on Natalie Merchant. We’re both dating ourselves, unless you’re young and have caught her through the second time around. πŸ˜‰
